Fortune Theatre 2016 General Auditions and Acting Workshops

Show us your talent! We are pleased to announce our 2016 general auditions will take place at workshops on 2 May.

We are based in the heart of Dunedin, one of the world’s great small cities for arts and culture, offering the lifestyle of a much larger place in a remarkable natural setting. We’re looking for actors to join us at an exciting point in our history as we forge ways to broaden and diversify our work and audiences.

These will be the first general auditions with our new Artistic Director, Jonathon Hendry. Jonathon joins us after over a decade of leading actor training at both UNITEC and Toi Whakaari and an impressive freelance career creating work that delights, challenges and invigorates.

These auditions are a free professional development opportunity, where Jonathon will audition small groups of actors through a 2-hour acting workshop process. The workshop will be an opportunity to work alongside other participants in a learning environment that inspires rigor with levity and resourcefulness.

Those wishing to audition are required to prepare two contrasting monologues, one of which must be from a New Zealand play. Actors who are also skilled singers should come prepared with 16 bars of a song. Both monologues and the song should not exceed a combined duration of 5 minutes. Actors may be asked to perform only one monologue. You must be 18 or over to audition.

To be considered please e-mail contact details, a headshot and performance résumé along with your preferred time frame: 10:00am-12:00 noon, 1:00pm-3:00pm or 4:00pm-6:00pm to: Shannon Colbert at education@fortunetheatre.co.nz by 5pm Wednesday, 20 April.

Successful candidates will be contacted with a confirmed 2-hour audition/workshop time slot. These will take place in Fortune’s rehearsal room at King Edward Court, 261 Stuart St, Dunedin on 2 May, 2016.
