Education

Fortune Theatre is an excellent place for young people to learn and explore theatre. We provide a range of options for schools as EOTC experiences. Come and experience a forum night and talk to the cast and crew of a production, take a tour around the theatre, join our ambassador programme, or book a drama workshop. We can also offer show specific education workshops, designed to link to a range of subjects within the New Zealand Curriculum and to NCEA achievement standards. .

Education resources

Further information about selected plays can be found in our school resource guides. We currently have a guide for , , Lungs and The Caretaker.

Ambassador Programme

Fortune School Ambassadors are selected from local high schools to come to the theatre to meet and observe theatre professionals at work. They will have the opportunity to get inside the rehearsal room to see the rehearsal process in action and talk with the actors, directors and stage managers, along with interviewing costume, set, sound and lighting designers to develop a good understanding of the process of creating a professional theatre production and what a career in theatre could look like. The Ambassadors also get to join us for opening night with complementary tickets to the performance. Fortune School Ambassadors are responsible for sharing their experiences at the theatre with their fellow students and community, writing reviews, talking about the shows on Otago Access Radio and promoting theatre at their schools. Enquire here for more information.

Forums

Forums provide a wonderful opportunity to talk with the cast and crew of each production. They are held on the first Tuesday evening of the season at 6:00 and are very popular with school groups. So popular, in fact, that we often schedule a 2nd or 3rd forum night. Students are able to ask questions and discuss everything from set, lighting and costume design to acting choices, themes and script analysis. Please  to book in for one of our forum nights, which are open to the public as well as school groups.
