5 August – 26 August
For over 25 years, INTO THE WOODS has been enchanting audiences of all ages, first as a Tony Award winning production on Broadway, then in critically acclaimed productions across the globe, and most recently as a Golden Globe winning movie musical. Now, this timeless masterpiece comes to the Fortune Theatre for the first time.
Brimming with magical moments this is not exactly the tale you will remember. Venture into the woods with Cinderella and her Prince, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, Rapunzel, the Witch, Jack & the Beanstalk and a host of other delightful characters whose worlds collide in this masterful deconstructed musical fairytale by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.
Acclaimed UK Musical Director Mark Dorrell will join Artistic Director Jonathon Hendry, to bring Into the Woods to Dunedin for the first time. Dorrell brings with him a wealth of knowledge from his highly successful career on London’s West End where he not only worked alongside the likes of Dame Judi Dench, Hugh Jackman and Sir Ian McKellan, but with Stephen Sondheim himself on the European premiere of Into The Woods in 1991.
Don’t miss the show that the New York Times calls “truly enchanting”, a funny, poignant and wildly imaginative journey into the world of fairytales that will captivate audiences young and old.
Join us on a brilliant adventure into the woods and out again with the 2017 Fortune Company.
